Subaru Environmental Responsibility

When it comes to social responsibility, no automaker takes things more seriously than Subaru - especially when it comes to the environment. Subaru has a number of initiatives and programs which demonstrate its serious commitment to being greener and less wasteful:

Subaru's Zero Landfill Initiative

Suabru's manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana was one of the first in the world to produce cars with zero landfill waste. Since 2004, Subaru has been reusing or recycling all of its production waste, adding nothing to our planet's growing landfill problem. After successfully achieving zero landfill status, the Subaru has reached out to other businesses such as Whole Food and Raytheon, to provide zero landfill training so they too can help environment. This marks Subaru not only as America's first zero-landfill automaker, but also one that is ecological responsible.

Subaru's Historic National Parks Landfill Initiative

Subaru's Historic National Parks Landfill Initiative is a promise from Subaru to do its part to make America's beautiful national parks absolutely trash-free. By sharing the insights they learned at their Indiana manufacturing plant with National Park researchers and representatives and by offering partnership and support in any way necessary, Subaru aims to help Yosemite, Grand Teton, and Denali National Parks reduce their waste by almost 10 million pounds. Having already donated over 3 million dollars to the National Park Foundation since 2013, Subaru has quickly become nature's best friend in the auto industry.

Subaru Loves the Earth

Subaru is encouraging many of their employees to volunteer at National Parks through their Subaru Loves the Earth campaign. Of course, there is a lot more to this campaign than just asking for volunteers. Another part of this campaign is the Butterfly Heroes drive to save the Monarch Butterfly. Subaru is distributing 50,000 garden kits to installing hundreds of demonstration gardens all across the United States to encourage people to create an environment for the Monarch Butterfly whose population has declined by 90% in recent years due to a loss of its habitat. This campaign is also a part of their Historic National Parks Landfill Initiative, and their drive to make Yosemite, the Grand Tetons, and Denali zero landfill parks.

Subaru Green Awards

Subaru has been recognized time and time again for its efforts and achievements in green manufacturing practices, earning a variety of green and ecological awards. From its June 2012 Sustania Award to its ISO 50001 Energy Management Certification, Subaru proves its dedication to a cleaner planet.
